Profile

I am a qualified Horticulturist and Designer, offering consultancy, garden design, project management and garden maintenance programmes. I studied Amenity Horticulture at the University of Bath and graduated with an Honours Degree in 1981, and have recently gained a Diploma in Garden Design.

Following time spent in the Middle East in the 1980s, mainly in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia working in landscaping, I returned to the UK and spent a number of years working for Fisons Horticulture, both at their headquarters in Ipswich, Suffolk, and around Europe. I have just returned from a spell working in the Caribbean as Project Manager of Landscaping on the Viceroy Resort & Residence project in Anguilla, British West Indies, and am now based in Framlingham, Suffolk.

I have an extensive knowledge of horticulture combined with a flair for design, which I use in my design projects. My experience in large landscape construction projects means that I can very quickly get an overview of the client’s aspirations no matter how big. Although I have been designing gardens for friends and family for many years, it is only now that I am commercializing this talent for tailoring garden design to precise customer requirements.

My inspiration comes from our great British gardening tradition, from designers such as Gertrude Jekyll and Vita Sackville-West, through to Margery Fish, Christopher Lloyd and Beth Chatto. Additionally, the use of bold swathes of living plant material, as exemplified by Roberto Burle Marx in Brazil, and more recently by the European New Perennial Movement, by the likes of Piet Oudolf and Henk Gerritsen, fires my imagination.

Ultimately, however, the direction and guidance comes from you, the Client. I will synthesize the ideas, tastes, needs and wants that personify you, to create a garden that is unique and yours to nurture and cherish.
